Meet Dr. Scarborough

EDUCATION

Dr. Vanessa Scarborough is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified pediatric neuropsychologist located in Lutherville, MD. She received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, IL, and completed her pre-doctoral internship training in child clinical and pediatric psychology at the Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. After receiving her Ph.D., Dr. Scarborough completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH.

Work Experience

In 2010, following completion of her post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Scarborough joined the Neuropsychology Department at Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) in Baltimore, MD. While at KKI she completed comprehensive outpatient neuropsychological evaluations (English & Spanish) for children and adolescents with acquired, congenital and neurodevelopmental disorders, with a special focus on epilepsy and traumatic brain injuries. Clinical services also included the provision of brief neuropsychological evaluations in a multidisciplinary concussion clinic. In addition to providing clinical services, she was also involved in training and supervision of pre-doctoral externs and post-doctoral fellows. After seven years at KKI, she joined the Neuropsychology Department at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, FL. In addition to providing outpatient neuropsychological evaluations, she also provided inpatient neuropsychological evaluations including pre- and post-surgical evaluations at JHACH. She also participated in the training and supervision of pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. In 2019, Dr. Scarborough relocated back to MD and currently provides neuropsychological, psychological and psychoeducational evaluations in a private practice setting located in Baltimore County.

Board Certification

Dr. Scarborough follows the principles, policies, and practices supported by the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN). As such, she has obtained board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). ABPP grants the most rigorous and highest competency designation in the field.

MEET DR. MCDERMOTT

EDUCATION

Dr. McDermott is a licensed clinical psychologist. She earned a doctoral degree in school psychology from the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR. She completed her pre-doctoral fellowship in behavioral psychology and her post-doctoral fellowship in clinical child psychology and neurodevelopmental disabilities at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Dr. McDermott joined the Neuropsychology Department at Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) in 2014. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. At KKI, she completes comprehensive outpatient psychological evaluations for children and adolescents diagnosed with or suspected of having a neurodevelopmental and/or psychiatric disorder. In addition to providing clinical services, she is involved in training and supervision of pre-doctoral externs and post-doctoral fellows. In 2021, Dr. McDermott was appointed a member of the Maryland State Board of Psychologists. Dr. McDermott joined Scarborough Neuropsychology, PC on a part-time basis in January 2022. She provides psychological and psychoeducational evaluations, for children 18 months to elementary school age. Her areas of expertise include autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Dr. McDermott is a board certified behavior analyst.
